Interim, full or major service: which do you need?
What each level of service includes and when to choose it.

Garages usually offer three levels of service.
Interim service
Every 6 months or 6,000 miles. Oil and filter change, fluid top-ups and a safety inspection. Good for high mileage drivers.
Full service
Every 12 months or 12,000 miles. Everything in an interim service plus air filter, more detailed checks of brakes, steering and suspension, and often a fuel filter on diesels.
Major service
Every 24 months or 24,000 miles. Adds spark plugs, cabin filter, brake fluid and coolant changes depending on the manufacturer's schedule.
Always follow your manufacturer's schedule if you have one. It keeps your service history strong and can protect your warranty.
